General Assembly Minutes: Monday, October 24th at 6 PM

24 people in attendance.
Minutes taken by: Sherilyn
The arguments worked themselves out today.
Jesse: What specifically did we get done today?
-The petition is getting worked on.
Sherliyn : Food inventory is complete.
Michael: Peacekeeping should be kept on cement and tents are moving to grass.
Security-
Al: We need to discuss the issue of security for consensus now.
Evan: You guys are Occupy Slo and it’s your responsibility to figure out the security committee. It is not the steering committee’s responsibility.
Cody: 3 people have worked on the security committee. Austin will join security until 3am and Balam will take a later shift.
Suggestions:
Prado Day Center is available for showers.
Movie Night -
Jesse: On copyrights: We need to have permission/public domain to display in public.
Points of Action –
Create a committee for Halloween night
Blood Drive?
Evan via Desire: Where are they going to the bathroom?
Fred: Near Pottery there are public restrooms.
Jesse: I’m taking care of it before it closes.
Andrew: Porta potties are down at the mission.
Al : We can solve the sanitary issues but we need to discuss security. There is a liability issue here because we are on public property.
Suggestions:
#1: Keep the occupation clean
Fill out an application to occupy
Union guys could come by because they can handle business
You have to be prepared because we live in a “violent” country.
RSVP is a volunteer group that can help. Any one that disagrees?

Andrew: Why should we have an application?
Damion:
I agree with a list of people who are here for safety but we are not here to deal with their personal history.
Balam: We are not going to have a list, we are going to greet everyone who comes here. Everyone needs to be addressed.
Betsy: We need to compile a safety list.
Jesse: We are leaderless and who would hold the list? Someone would have too much power.
Cody agrees with Jesse’s statement.
Michael: The concern is real. We could put the list in the medical tent.
Damion: Gabriela has many of the numbers. We should have a contact list.
Al: I agree. I am not an authoritarian. It is good to know who your neighbors are. The messag is bigger than us. We need to be in compliance. You need to run your camp and take car of it.
Jesse asks for a temperature check. Everyone responds positively.
Austin: If there are people who are available to prevent violence …
Cody: As much as I can cause violence, I can prevent it.
Eric: I like having unions here to help the security.
Balam: Call 911 if something happens. There need to be people up at all times.
-The cops would arrest the attackers but possibly everyone here and shut down the camp?

Austin: Security should be called peace keeping. Don’t antagonize!
Betsy: There are conflicts out there. You need guardians to keep you safe. Whether it be unions or you guys. You don’t want to get bombed/maced.
Michael: What we want to see is, whether or not you all believe in this, a Good Neighbor Policy.
Cody: Martial Arts - keeping yourself calm, putting steps forward to be calm.
Jesse: We can’t have peace keepers who get angry!
Andrew: Everyone needs to be the security.
Jaclyn: You should have a drill where we circle the perpetrator and form a group around them to usher them out. The mayor said we need to govern ourselves and if we need the police to resolve our issues we will be shut down.
Jesse: We need to have numbers.
- The biggest deterrent are the use of drugs and alcohol.
Al: Makes motion for outside security
Sina: I don’t see having union guys here as only having security, it’s also bringing more people here. The security aspect is a perk.
Al: You have failed to keep the camp safe.
Maggie: When I go away from here and go home? We have to keep remind ourselves why we are here. We cannot fight amongst ourselves. We have to keep coming back. We are here for a reason.
Sherilyn: Motioned for the Good Neighbor Policy
Consensus was reached in regards to the Good Neighbor Policy
Al: 9 AM – Board of Supervisors is meeting and you may have a public comment for 3 minutes.
We also need a treasurer
Andrew nominates Austin
Jesse seconds the nomination but amends that we need a second person and nominates Balam.
Sherilyn 2nds the amendment.
Meeting is adjurned.
